Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy team within the Acute Medical Admissions Units at Royal Blackburn Hospital. You will work with the Senior Pharmacist for AMU and on occasion ED, other AMU/Acute Care specialist pharmacists and technicians to deliver a safe and effective pharmacy service. The AMU Pharmacy service currently operates between 8am-7pm seven days a week.

We have an established team of non-medical prescribing pharmacists and technicians embedded within both our AMUs and ED and are pleased to be able to add to this service at an exciting time when pharmacist roles have advanced beyond all recognition and there is scope to be at the forefront of patient diagnostics and management and work as clinical practitioners if this is desired.

Post-holders will undertake a non-medical prescribing course to make the most of their abilities, and will be supported to undertake further professional or clinical developments in line with service needs. You should have completed your first year of your clinical diploma or working towards completion.

You will work a designated shift pattern to include weekends; this will discussed and open to negotiation (including fixed compressed hours )at interview. You will support the late night rota (main dispensary pharmacy open until 7pm) and/or the on-call rota on an average basis of one shift every three weeks.

Main duties of the job

Main duties are summarised below.

  • Deputise for the Senior Pharmacist in Medical Admissions as delegated and as designated in their absence
  • Provide high quality pharmaceutical care to patients the assessment and admissions services
  • Act as a role model in the field of clinical pharmacy and provide a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service in line with Trust objectives and NHSE initiatives
  • Support the development of agreed policies and procedures for safe medicines use, across medical admissions areas and Trust-wide
  • Work closely with other staff across "acute care" (ED/AMU/Ambulatory Care/UCC) departments to ensure the delivery of an integrated pharmacy service

  • MPharm degree or equivalent
  • Registered as a Pharmacist (member of GPhC)
  • Post-graduate clinical certificate (first year)

Desirable

  • Non-medical Prescribing Qualification
  • Pst-graduate clinical diploma (second year) or working towards

Knowledge

  • Understanding of local & national pharmaceutical policy
  • Understanding of medicines legislation and guidance (Medicines Act, Safe & Secure Handling of Medicines, MHRA alerts)
  • Understanding clinical and risk management guidance and clinical governance principles
