Job summary

The Urology service at ELHT is progressive and forward thinking and these posts present an exciting opportunity to join a cohesive team of enthusiastic Urology professionals who are supported by high quality colleagues in the wider multi-disciplinary team.

The appointment is for a Full time Consultant Urological Surgeon on 10PAs working across our two base sites of RBTH and BGTH. It is intended that the successful candidate will have existing and extensive interest and experience in oncology, especially robotic pelvic surgery. Other sub-specialty areas such as endourology/stones, functional or paediatrics may also be considered.

With this appointment there will be 9 full time Urology Consultants supporting a 1:9 on-call rota with middle grade cover.

There is subspecialisation in Oncology, Endourology and functional Urology. All consultants still undertake core Urology. Andrology services are also provided but are mainly run by a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The department is an accredited cancer centre for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network where the major pelvic cancer surgery is currently split between East Lancashire Hospitals Trust and one other provider. The trust has two NHS commissionedda Vincirobots which are used for radical prostatectomies, partial and radical nephrectomies. Cystectomy procedures are currently not performed at ELHT but this is under review. The trust is also a referral centre for complex stone surgery including PCNL procedures.

Consultant Urological Surgeon - interest and experience in pelvic oncology, other interest areas may be considered in line with the needs of the department.

  • Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via ? CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview ? CESR or ? European Community Rights
  • FRCS (UROL) or qualification of an equivalent level.
  • MBBS or equivalent MRCS or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal College of surgeons or equivalent.
  • Experience and training in Core Urology
  • Attendance at appropriate professional meetings and courses to maintain professional competencies
  • High level of clinical experience in dealing with Pelvic oncology or endourology or functional urology
  • Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Ability to mentor others
  • Audit Understanding of, and experience of, performing and participating in audits during general professional or higher specialist training.
