Job summary
East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust requires a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Surgery for initially 6 months with the possibility of an extension.
The post is based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital which are well-equipped modern hospitals with excellent facilities.
The successful applicant will assist in providing a clinical service in General Surgery to the population of East Lancashire and the adjoining areas. This will include supporting and undertaking outpatient clinics, operating lists, ward rounds and being part of the Surgical Out of Hours Service (SOS) on-call rota.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in providing a clinical service in elective and emergency General Surgery to the population of East Lancashire and the adjoining areas. This will include undertaking outpatient clinics, daytime operating lists and out of hour's emergency operating lists under the supervision of Consultants. The post holder may rotate through the other specialist firms dependent on the needs of the service.
The timetable will be fluid. The appointee will have the opportunity to operate independently within the competencies that they hold for specific procedures.
About us
The individual appointed to this post will join the Trust's highly motivated multidisciplinary team, led by 16 Consultant General Surgeons, in addressing the challenging demands of the speciality.
There will be opportunities to assist with major cases in General Surgery. The number of clinical commitments will depend on service requirements and remaining opportunities will include on-call duties and the management of the Emergency Surgical Unit.

- Elective one night stay- Burnley General Teaching Hospital
- Outpatients - Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, Burnley General Teaching Hospital, Clitheroe and Rossendale.
- Diagnostic - Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.
