Due to restructuring within the Respiratory Directorate. An exciting opportunity has become available on Ward C6 for you to lead the ward nursing team on this well established 25 bedded Respiratory Ward which currently holds 'Silver SPEC status' at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
You will be closely with the other wards within the directorate, the Respiratory Lung Cancer Specialist Nurses, the palliative care team and the Respiratory Diagnostic Unit to provide the highest standards of safe, personal and effective care.
A flexible approach and the ability to respond to the demands of a rapidly changing acute clinical environment are essential. You will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and have a passion for improving the patient and relative experience in addition to having a sound clinical knowledge base. In addition to this, you will possess well developed communication skills that will be used to engage, inspire and motivate both staff and patients in the clinical area. Good time management skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise your workload.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care and the management of a ward or equivalent sphere of nursing, including the deployment and supervision of staff and where the teaching of student and/or extensive nursing intervention is required. To support the co-ordination of medical emergency admissions to the Trust. To effectively communicate with all the Wards and Departments, Emergency Department and General Practitioners to ensure timely and appropriate admissions and smooth, safe transfers and discharges. Participate in the Band 7 out of hours shift system to provide adequate nurse management cover on the hospital site.
