Job summary

The System Administrator will be a key member of the Electronic Patient Record Team (ePR) at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and will be required to work closely with application users and service providers to deliver system support to the Trust.

The person will be expected to be a crucial resource on ePR implementation and support for the Trust. The postholder will be responsible for; developing, maintaining and updating the Trust procedures on the use of Trust ePR System, helping train departmental "super users, supporting the users on a day-to-day basis and acting as first point of contact for the supplier and system users in case of problems.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. Undertake the day to day administration of ePR modules and procedures.
  2. Update back office user guides to support new functionality.
  3. Maintain secure and safe working of the systems.
  4. Issue and deactivate passwords for all systems.
  5. Liaise with the Informatics Service Desk to agree, implement and maintain fault/issues reporting procedures.
  6. Work with ePR Project Manager(s) and Project staff to facilitate the roll out of ePR.
  7. Liaise and work with the system supplier, to develop the functionality of the ePR.
  8. Manage all system working processes.
  9. Take ownership of new software releases/applications and supervise testing scenarios.
  10. Lead on cleaning of existing masterfiles/tables.
  11. Run test scripts for systems to the prescribed standard.
  12. Project manage migration to newer versions of the system, ensuring adequate testing is undertaken prior to implementation.
  13. Develop and produce reports from system.
  14. Monitor and improve data quality for ePR.
  15. Improve usage of system in terms of numbers of users and quality of usage.
  16. Lead & support any implementation projects as required including weekend and evening work as required.
  17. Provide support and assistance to all staff in order to maximise usage of ePR.
  18. Assist with post installation reviews/system optimisation.
  19. Provide cover within the Systems Support Team as and when required.
  20. Respond in accordance with service level agreements to all ePR calls forwarded by the trust Informatics Service Desk.
  21. Deal with all of the more complex/time consuming support issues for ePR operational solutions, dealing with conflicting priorities and interruptions.

Attainments

Essential

  • Good level of education to diploma level or equivalent and relevant work experience in Application Support.

Desirable

  • Actively seeks to develop own knowledge, skills, ability and qualifications
  • PRINCE project management foundation and/or practitioner
  • ITIL foundation or practitioner

Specialist Knowledge

Essential

  • Windows Operating system
  • Proficient MS Office user
  • Knowledge of Hospital patient flows.
  • Relevant experience of database master table administration/maintenance.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Data Protection issues

Desirable

  • In depth knowledge and understanding of systems set-up.
  • Experience of IM&T systems maintenance/ management

Work Experience

  • Extensive NHS experience
