Job summary

An opportunity for a 6 month locum contract has come available. The Level 3 Neonatal Unit is based at the Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre in Burnley. It is a state of the art, new purpose built Unit which became operational in mid November 2010. All the maternity and Neonatal inpatient care in East Lancashire is centralised in Burnley as per Meeting Patient Needs (MPN) consultation.

This post of Senior Clinical Fellow is based exclusively in Neonatology. This vacancy has arisen due to a gap in the rota. This is a 80% less than full time post a and the post holder will join the Middle grade team comprising 4 ST trainees, 3 ANNPs, 1 Speciality Doctor , 2 resident Consultants. Currently all middle grades except one contribute to full shift EWTD rota.

Main duties of the job

  1. The post holder will be expected to provide a patient centred service, respecting the privacy, dignity and choice of individual patients. They will be responsible, with Consultant Neonatal colleagues, for the provision of inpatient neonatal services within the East Lancashire Hospital Trust.
  2. The post holder will aim to deliver high quality neonatal care with the help of the existing Neonatal colleagues.
  3. The post holder will assist consultant colleagues in the continued development of Neonatal paediatrics.
  4. The post holder will provide night and weekend cover for the rota.
  5. The post holder will share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.

  1. The post holder will run Consultant clinics at both Blackburn and Burnley sites as per the job plan.

  1. The post holder will observe and comply with clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures (including local and national employment and personnel policies) agreed with employees and management. In particular, the post holders will be responsible for updating policies and guidelines for the neonatal unit along with colleagues, which should be reviewed annually.

  1. The post holder will be closely involved in clinical governance issues.

The Trust also has close links with a number of Tertiary Centres in Manchester and Liverpool for both adult and children's services.

  • Six months or more experience of working in Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit in middle grade capacity

  • Understanding of audit during general professional training
  • Familiarity with evidence based practice
