Job summary

The IT Support Engineer is responsible for providing quality maintenance and support to all users of IM&T equipment and services in the Trust. Providing frontline advanced technical support to other Trust technicians, users and our external customers ensuring the highest possible standards of technical assistance and customer service.

Main duties of the job

MAIN DUTIES

  • To provide quality technical maintenance and support of the Trust's user based IT hardware and software
  • To provide support to standard and non-standard Trust software applications
  • Take the lead with the resolution of IT Service Desk generated incidents within any predetermined timescales, including escalation where required
  • To perform installation of hardware and software, ensuring it is installed to existing Trust standards and within any predetermined timescales
  • Enable staff moves across the Trusts estate by providing technical assistance to move, re-site IT equipment and ensure asset registers are updated
  • Ensure local procedures are in place and followed, and if not contribute to the creation of these
  • To rotate between the IT field support and remote support functions within IT Service Delivery
  • To provide high levels of customer care and satisfaction
  • To be involved with specific IM&T roll-outs of projects as required

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in IT relating subject or equivalent level, or equivalent experience
  • GCSE English and Mathematics grade 4/C or equivalent

Desirable

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate
  • ITIL Foundation
  • CompTIA A+ or CompTIA Network +

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive hands on experience in a medium to large organisation supporting users of IT hardware and software.

Desirable

  • Significant experience of working within IT in an NHS environment.
  • Experience installing Clinical applications within NHS environment

Knowledge/Skills

Essential

  • Expert technical knowledge to enable build, installation and repair of IT Hardware such as PCs, laptops, IP phones, tablets and printers
  • Proven ability to install and repair IT software
  • Demonstrable methodical approach to finding faults, diagnosing the cause and implementing a resolution
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in order to diagnose and resolve non-routine or complex IT faults
  • An excellent understanding of Microsoft Desktop Operating systems and applications including 365 technologies
  • Possess a clear understanding of IT Service Delivery and the timescales surrounding the resolution of raised issues

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the use of information systems within the NHS
  • Knowledge of IT Systems such as Citrix, Microsoft SCCM, Antivirus solutions
  • Knowledge of IT policies and procedures including IT security and disaster recovery

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts in plain language to a wide ranging audience
  • Able to work under pressure
