Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine which focuses on treating the musculoskeletal system. This includes muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic service is based across two sites, Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. It provides acute care at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and most of the elective care at Burnley General Teaching Hospital both delivered by highly skilled specialists. In addition, we provide outpatients services at Accrington Victoria Community Hospital, Clitheroe Community Hospital, and Pendle Community Hospital.
We are one of the largest departments in the Northwest. We have a large clinical team consisting of consultant orthopaedic surgeons, consultants specialised in care of the elderly, specialist trainees, middle grade doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, specialist nurses and junior doctors.
The Trauma and Orthopaedic department are actively engaged in research and teaching for elective and trauma surgery. Along with trauma care, we are subspecialties in lower limb, upper limb, foot and ankle and children's orthopaedics.
Main duties of the job
This role supports our specialist clinic services within fracture clinic , this may include managing your own clinic and working in our nurse led dressing clinic. You will provide leadership and coordinating duties to support our patients and clinicians, as well as supporting all staff in the department.
Takes charge of the Fracture and Orthopaedic clinics at Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital in the absence of the Department Manager.
Promote the efficient running of clinics, ensuring patients are supported during their time in the departments and receive necessary treatments and appropriate on going care.
Works with the department Manager to ensure that clinic staff have the necessary skills, tools and equipment to carry out the job.

You will participate in improvements and attend relevant service meetings.
