Job summary

The ELCAS team is a specialist Child Psychiatry team. We work with people from a variety of backgrounds who have mental health difficulties or disorders which impact on their lives and their family's lives. We deliver assessment and treatment packages for young people who have significant mental disorders. ELCAS is also commissioned to complete assessments of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). You will work with multi-disciplinary teams and directly with young people scoring questionnaires, undertaking clinical observations, and computerised diagnostic appointments using QB tests.

Main duties of the job

The role will include collection and collation of clinical information, liaison with other agencies e.g. school, inputting information from questionnaires and using computer software directly with young people to assist the team in making clinical decisions about diagnosis and treatment. You will also be involved in undertaking physical checks, such as height, weight and blood pressure, where training will be provided.

The role will include some direct work with young people and is therefore subject to an enhanced check with the disclosure and barring service (DBS).

Some travel will be expected as part of this role, so access to private transport for work purposes is essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To provide and maintain the highest level of care and safety of young people/children under mental health supervision.
  2. Undertake practical tasks and duties as designated by the Team Co-ordinator such as school observations to assist with diagnosis and treatment of young people with mental health disorders.
  3. To work with children and their families both within the hospital and in the community as required to meet the needs of the Team. This will include completing physical checks such as height, weight & blood pressure
  4. To complete accurate and timely records in line with ELHT record keeping policy.
  5. To assist the Mental Health Practitioners in the assessment of ADHD e.g. completing computerized tests of activity and concentration.
  6. Treat children and families with respect, courtesy and give attention to their privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs at all times.
  7. Participate in clinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis
  8. Manage clinical data and play a role in both data gathering and data analysis in line with the secondary use dataset requirements as mandated by the Department of Health.
  9. Participate in the collection and management of routine outcome measures.
  10. Participate in the collection, inputting and interpretation of diagnostic information such as Connors questionnaires for ADHD
  11. Participate in clinical audit as required which may include retrieval and analysis of medical records against set standards.
  12. Work as a valued member of the team through both accepting and supporting others, being aware and sensitive to your own and others values, priorities, interests and effectiveness.
  13. Be involved in preparing the clinical environment and monitoring the use of resources as required.
  14. Be involved in the delivery and implementation of therapeutic and clinical services in conjunction with clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
