Job summary
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The Successful applicant will join a friendly, motivated and dynamic department. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team. They will have a passion for obstetrics and gynaecology services.
The successful candidate will join 26 other substantive Consultants at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. The post will be based at Burnley General Hospital, although this may be subject to change.
The applicant should have the appropriate training and experience to fulfil the requirements of this post.

The exact programme activity allocation will be subject to agreement with the Clinical Director; an indicative Job Plan is included. The remaining PA's reflect supporting professional activities. These may include teaching, audit, research and CPD.

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-
- To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Family Care Division or the Trust.
About us
The post holder will join a fantastic multi-disciplinary team based at the Lancashire Women & Newborn Centre. This is a purpose built, modern unit located on the Burnley General Hospital site, and is the largest in-patient consultant led obstetric unit in the North West. It provides centralised state-of-the-art maternity and gynaecology services.
The Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre includes 5 operating theatres, a consultant led maternity unit, midwife led birthing centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Level 3), general, emergency and specialist gynaecology services. There is also a stand alone midwife-led birthing unit off the Hospital site in Blackburn.
Across all our sites we pride ourselves on our teaching and for providing a great experience for trainee doctors.
We have received excellent feedback from medical students, foundation yearoctors and specialty trainees.
The department has a strong commitment to training, in 2019, the team was recognized as the top training unit in the country for the obstetrics training it provides to trainee doctors, also rated very highly for professional development (5th nationally), general gynaecology training (15th) and overall recommendation (7th).
