Job summary
The role of Evidence Librarian will give you the opportunity to make a difference to patient care at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. You'll be working as part of a new dynamic team finding evidence to support clinical and corporate improvement across the Trust. You'll have responsibility to create new search formats, new training methods and identify innovative products and techniques to remove barriers to healthcare information. This is an ideal opportunity for newly qualified librarians or for established library colleagues looking to make a change.
Main duties of the job
Conducting literature searches and delivering training, the Evidence Librarian will work as part of a team headed by the Lead Evidence Librarian to develop the Evidence Service at ELHT. This post will provide tremendous experience in all aspects of modern healthcare library work as we develop new search products and plan for new library buildings. The role is varied and flexible with its main aim to help staff and students at the trust find, understand and use the best available evidence for patient care, professional development, service development and quality improvement.

- Work with a wide range of individuals, specialist teams and departments to identify their information needs. Plan how to meet these needs with the latest relevant information to support patient care, policy/procedures review and service development.
- Support the information needs of teams through, e.g. Evidence searches conducted on behalf of or with members of the team
- Develop a variety of bespoke evidence products and alerting services, identifying gaps in the provision and promoting existing bulletins.
- Develop, plan and deliver induction and training, in association with the Lead Librarian, for individuals and groups in how to access, appraise and utilise a variety of print and online resources. Training will be delivered 1:1, in groups, online and via elearning resources.
- Identify emerging technology to aid service improvement.
