Job summary
We are recruiting to an exciting opportunity for a Physician Associate to join the Digestive Diseases clinical team at East Lancashire Hospitals based at The Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. We are passionate about multi-disciplinary working to provide high quality and holistic care to the people we support and are looking to grow our clinical team with the welcome the contribution of an additional Physician Associate.
The Physician Associate will play an active role in the team and become involved in the activities of the Digestive Diseases Unit (DDU), including coordinating patients on treatment pathways, reviewing inpatients and providing subsequent management of cases in conjunction with the Clinical team. Physician Associates may also be represent the department at local meetings as appropriate.

Main duties of the job
- The PA will be under the supervision of the Medical Team and will be supported in developing those skills necessary to perform their role in providing high quality, patient centred service.
- The post holder will work collaboratively
- The post holder will build on their skills in clerking, assessing and examining patients gained through their physician associate training, present to more senior members of the team, initiate and interpret investigations, and recommend appropriate managements/treatments (as governed by national guidelines) . They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients.
- It is expected that the Physician Associate will become involved in the activities of the Department, including coordinating patients on treatment pathways, reviewing inpatients and providing subsequent management of cases in conjunction with the Clinical team. Physician Associates may represent the department at local meetings as appropriate.
- Physicians Associates will be expected to contribute to the units educational activities and instruct and educate patients in preventative healthcare.
- Fully document all aspects of patient care and complete all required paperwork for legal and administrative purposes.
About us
The Trust is co-terminus with the local districts of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. The main urban areas are Blackburn, Accrington, Darwen, Burnley and Rossendale and several other small townships. The district is within reach of the universities of Manchester, Lancaster, Liverpool and Leeds including UCLAN with which ELHT has forged strong links. As well as being close to many urban centres, Blackburn and Burnley are also within easy distance of the Lancashire coast, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

- Basic Life support
