Job summary

To work as an expert practitioner who is responsible for thedelivery of patient focused care, which address thecomplex and changing health and wellbeing needs of critically illpatients and their families. Their expertise will ensure efficient collaboration with departments outside of the ICU including external authorities. The post holder will demonstrate excellentcommunication and leadership skills, and take responsibility for theday-to-day line management of the team for which he / she isresponsible.

Main duties of the job

The post holder under the leadership of the Matron has a continuing responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the Intensive Care Unit. He/she will ensure the delivery of a high quality, evidence-based and cost-effective service for patients and their families. Combining clinical expertise with innovative, dynamic nursing leadership the post holder will manage a designated team of ICU staff in their professional and practice development.

Essential

  • Good general education
  • Registered Nurse (Level 1)
  • Recognised course in Teaching and Assessing in practice
  • Degree in Nursing Evidence of further continued professional development
  • Accredited critical care course

Desirable

  • ENB 998/SLICE/mentorship or Equivalent
  • Management Course desirable

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Strong experience as a Band 6
  • Excellent post registration Experience
  • Previous experience as shift/team leader
  • Experience of teaching students, HCA's and qualified staff
  • Experience in staff appraisals and personal development plans
  • Competence in expanded role practices such as haemofiltration and haemodynamic monitoring

Desirable

  • Experience of clinical supervision

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work required shift pattern and special circumstances
