This is an exciting new post for a highly experienced Specialist Doctor under the reformed contract for SAS doctors. The successful candidate will fulfil the clinical eligibility criteria for this specialist role as well as the GMC generic capabilities framework.

Our community paediatric service is looking for an energetic and committed doctor to join our multi-disciplinary team. The team comprises 4 consultants, one SAS doctor, two GPs with a special interest in community paediatrics, psychologists, and pharmacists. We are looking to add nurse colleagues to our team. We have received additional funding from our commissioners and are at an exciting time of change in our service. We are looking for someone who will positively contribute to our team, embracing change and willing to be flexible in their approach. Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for paediatric referral clinics in the community,statutory assessments, initial and review health assessments for children looked after, taking part in assessing referrals working closely and liaising with schools and other CYP multi-disciplinary professionals such as health visitors, school nurses, speech and language therapists, physiotherapy and occupational therapists.

The post holder will take part in departmental referral meetings with clinical colleagues and in liaison meetings with other professionals within the locality.

You must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

The successful candidate will be joining our team of 5 consultants, 2 pharmacists, 2 GPSIs and a team of Psychologists delivering integrated paediatric care in Buckinghamshire.

There is no on call component in this roleThe successful candidate will be responsible for the management of patients in their direct care. Delivery of clinic activity occurs at a number of sites including Amersham, Aylesbury and High Wycombe. We also offer non face to face clinic activity.

To deliver Community Paediatric services to the children, young people and their families covered by Buckinghamshire.

The post holder

Will be responsible for Community paediatric referral in conjunction with colleagues. S/He will facilitate communication with Health Visitors, School Nurses and therapists within the team.

Will take part in assessing referrals working closely with schools.

Pre-school developmental assessment for children presenting with developmental delay, social communication difficulties, behavioural difficulties, social problems etc. These are secondary level referral clinics and the children are referred from Health Visitors, Therapists, General Practitioners and other allied professionals.

The appointed doctor will take part in departmental referral meetings with clinical colleagues and in liaison meetings with other professionals within the locality

The appointed doctor will be available for telephone consultation to health, education and social care colleagues.

Statutory medical assessments. Assessment and management of both pre-school and school age children with special needs, with particular reference to the Education Act.

To be familiar with Trust child protection policy. To work closely with staff and external agencies on Child Protection

To attend case conferences where required and to ensure the parts of the child protection plan relevant to our service are carried out.

The duties are subject to review from time-to time in light of changing service requirements. These changes will be mutually agreed between the appointee and the Trust.

Take active participation in clinical governance and directorate meetings within the Children and young people directorate.

To maintain close liaison with professionals from health, education and Social Care, as well as voluntary agencies for individual patients. Active collaboration with the local authority and education department to promote joint working.

To participate and involvement in meetings and other business in the combined Department of Paediatrics.

To take part in undergraduate teaching within the community and in postgraduate teaching, where required.

To be actively encouraged to take part in research and development programmes.

To be expected to undertake continuing medical education in accordance with guidance from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.

To undertake any other duties which may be reasonably required within the remit of the grade.

As with other consultants take the role of clinical and or educational supervisor for trainees within the department. This comes with additional SPA time.

Essential

  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • 2 years of Higher Specialsit training in Community Pediatrics or equivalent
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council. Licence to practice MB, ChB or equivalent
  • On GMC specialist register or within 6 months of receipt of CCT in Paediatrics at time of interview
