Job summary

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is looking to recruit a Healthcare Assistant at the Buckingham Community Hospital inpatient ward.

Main duties of the job

  • Communicate with patients and their visitors in order to promote their comfort and well-being
  • Communication with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately
  • Assist with admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
  • Make unoccupied beds and occupied beds.
  • Assist patients out of bed, helping with dressing and undressing as required
  • Wash/bathe patients in bed and in the bathroom.
  • Care of hands and feet of patients in bed.
  • Observe patients' skin and report any red marks or blemishes to nursing staff in charge.
  • Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy
  • Under direction of trained nurse, assist with the treatment/management of patients with insect infestations.
  • Report Accidents/incidents to nurse in charge and complete appropriate Trust forms.
  • Chaperone Medical Staff.
  • Assist with the care of the patient's mouth, teeth, nails and hair, washing hair at Nurse in Charge's direction. Prepare and distribute patients' meal trays and help with the serving of meals anddrinks as required, and help collect used crockery etc.
  • Feed patients. Record oral fluids and food intake as necessary.

  • National Care Certificate
  • Level 2 or Level 3 In Health and Social Care Subject (or willingness to work towards)
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths, (Level1 or equivalent) at interview assessment, or GCSE A to G

Skills & Knowledge

Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly & concisely with multi-disciplinary team patents & carers in English
  • Courteous with patients & others both internal & external
  • Ability to write clearly & legibily in English
  • Understands concept of Confidentiality and standards of conduct and care
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Willingness to undertake the Health and Social Care level 3 apprenticeship
