Job summary

These are exciting times for Medicine for Older People in Bucks. We are working towards strengthening our presence at the front door as well as our foothold in the community, particularly with regards to Frailty.

We are looking for a dynamic person with strong leadership and innovation skills to work in a team to develop Frailty services in Buckinghamshire.

We aim to have a small but robust acute footprint whilst maintaining and strengthening our larger community footprint. For us the front door is the patient's front door and not the AED

A sensible, patient-centered approach to Frailty is expected in the post-holder, as well as flexible working at both acute and community level.

Main duties of the job

The on-call rota is 1:10 weekends for ECPOD (Sat-Sun). A lieu day is given after a weekend on call. There are 2 other medical consultants on site as part of the medical take. On Sunday Night 8pm -8am , ECPOD provides cover and advice to the medical take from home

The department is keen to accommodate special interests; we are happy to discuss and consider appropriate changes in the weekly job plan.

The post-holder will be required to comply with Trust and GMC standards for appraisal and revalidation, including continuing professional development. The Department of Medical Education funds external study leave up to £800/year. There are numerous internal opportunities to gain CPD.

You will work in the community units as well as the acute site (Stoke Mandeville Hospital). .

As well as fulfilling their clinical responsibilities, the post holder will be expected to play a part in the department's audit and teaching activities, providing beside and formal teaching to medical students, junior doctors and other health professionals, and supervision of junior staff, as well as other members of the department's clinical team, and community clinicians.

The Trust has an optional mentoring system for new consultants and there is a New Consultants group led by Dr Tina O'Hara.
