Job summary

Do you have exceptional communication and organisational skills? Are you versatile in your ability to work in different locations and travel around the county of Buckinghamshire? Do you have a passion for improving health and well-being outcomes for children and young people? Do you posses some emerging leadership skills and feel confident to provide training and write reports?

This newly created post will provide an essential role to support the ongoing leadership and quality assurance of the National Childhood Measurement Programme and Vision Screening programme in Schools, provided by the BHT School Nursing Team.

In addition to this the post holder will support the Community Paediatric Team by offering care in school and monthly clinics to children and young people from 5-19 as part of the ongoing medication reviews, e.g. blood pressure.

There are 2 positions, based in Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Amersham Hospital. These will be 3 days per week, all year round, ideally there will be 1 day where both postholders will be in together.

The aim is to achieve equity of health outcomes for the local population through the provision of evidence based and needs led service.

There will be training opportunities throughout the year and a supportive team to guide and empower your development.You will be prepared to travel to various community settings across the county according to the needs of the Service and must have a full drivers licence and use of a car.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure the NCMP and Vision Screening programme are undertaken across the county
  • Support the School Health Assistants with planning the delivery of the programme across the county
  • Work closely with CYP Team Coordinator - School Nursing/CNCLD and CYP Data Analyst
  • Undertake blood pressure, height and weight monitoring on children who meet specific criteria and are stable on medication prescribed by BHT Community Paediatricians.
  • Attend and coordinate visits into schools to carry out measurements as required
  • Provide monthly clinics for children / families to attend if school visits were not possible
  • Adhere to clinical record keeping process and escalate results as required.
  • Undertake adhoc hearing tests on children
  • Support the development of skills and competency for workforce and new employees by arranging annual skills update sessions with the relevant speakers/trainers.

Essential

  • NVQ Level 4 equivalent - Higher Education Certificate/BTEC Or NVQ Level 5 equivalent - Higher Education Diploma in a relevant field of study for Children and Young People
  • 5 x GCSE including English and Maths or grade C or 5 and above (or similar equivalent)

Desirable

  • Further Education qualification in a related subject e.g. BSc Child and Adolescent studies or Foundation Degree in Working with Children and Young People

Skills, abilities and knowledge

  • IT literate or a variety of different applications
  • Previous NHS/Social care /Education/Voluntary organisation experience
