Job summary

Buckinghamshire Sexual Health & Wellbeing service - bSHaW have 2 well established clinics in Aylesbury and High Wycombe open Monday to Friday. More recently we have opened new clinics in Amersham on a Monday afternoon and evening, plus Buckingham on a Tuesday morning and afternoon. We are looking to expand our clinical team based at both our main and new sites.

Part or fulltime working options are available across the various sites. Where agreed travel from nominated work base to alternative clinic location will be reimbursed.

The service plays an active role in developing students across the many disciplines of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the nursing and health advising team to provide care within the sexual health service, working closely with other staff across the service to facilitate continuity of care.

The post holder will work closely with the Matron, Sister for Sexual Health, Senior Health Advisor, HIV Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide evidence based sexual health care alongside advice to promote health and well-being.

The post holder will be proactive in supporting the continued development of the service, promoting integrated working practices and cooperation across sites and stakeholders.

Be responsible for the unsupervised assessment of patient sexual health care needs, implementation and evaluation of plans of care, ensuring high standards within the framework of trust policies.

Provide nurse-led clinics, independently managing patients' case load.

Supervise and develop junior staff/students in all aspects of care.

  • RGN
  • NDFSRH or evidence of post graduate study & qualification in contraception
  • ENB 997/8 or equivilant

Desirable

  • Post graduate qualification in fitting SDI's (letter of competence or similar) or willingness to undertake training
  • Post graduate qualification in fitting IUD's 9letter of competence or similar) or willingness to undertake training
  • Sexually transmitted infection foundation course or similar evidence of education
  • Evidence of post graduate study in HIV

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post registration experience
  • Current experience of working in contraception
  • Current or recent experience working in a sexual health service (GUM)
  • Experience of working to PGD's or as non medical prescriber
  • Experience of working with young people

Desirable

  • Current experience working in HIV
  • Previous experience in research/audit

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

  • Clear concise verbal and written communication to ensure effective liaison with patients and multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to provide empathy and counselling when imparting highly sensitive information
  • Able to counsel service users on all available methods of contraception with reference to best evidence of care
  • Computer literate
  • Understanding of sexual health issues
  • Knowledge of the data protection act

  • Experience of fitting intra uterine devices and/or sub dermal implants
