Job summary

The Clinical Support Worker in Sports Therapy is an essential member of the NSIC physiotherapy team delivering rehabilitation to patients by undertaking aquatic therapy, wheelchair skills, and various sports activities that assist the patients in achieving their physical potential. They take responsibility for liaising with the community and other organisations to facilitate ongoing participation in sport and other leisure activities. They will have responsibility for taking patients for sports sessions outside of the hospital setting and will need to be able to manage the physical needs of the patients during these times.

They will have the responsibility for organising and managing the Stoke Mandeville Hospital team at the Inter Spinal Unit Games.

The successful post-holder must be an excellent communicator and motivator, with a proven record for taking responsibility and organising tasks. They will have a qualification in rehabilitation or sport or a related area, have experience of coaching others and have insight into the impact of disability and spinal cord injury. Knowledge of the different abilities and potential for varying presentations of spinal cord injury is essential. They will have established performance as a team player and sound knowledge of assessment of risk during the activities they lead.

An ability to take responsibility, be flexible and have a sensitive and empathetic approach is needed. Participation in manual handling tasks is crucial.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for coordinating and implementing the sports therapy component of the spinal physiotherapy rehabilitation for Spinal Cord Injury patients in conjunction with the Spinal Physiotherapy Team.

To support the Spinal Physiotherapy team to provide Aquatic Therapy and ward based treatment to patients with spinal cord injury.

To be an independent practitioner working alone in a designated Therapy area (Sports Therapy department) and external community facilities.

Essential

  • Recognised relevant or transferable qualification in Rehabilitation/Sport or related fields
  • Sports Coaching or teaching qualification
  • Good level of education to GCSE standard. (at least 3 subjects)
  • Grade C GCSE or level 5 equivalent in English.

Desirable

  • First Aid qualification

  • Full driving licence

EXPERIENCE
