Job summary

We are looking to recruit one term time only School Health Assistant to work 21 hours per week Term Time Only. The role will be working mainly with the North Bucks School Nursing Team in schools in Aylesbury, Buckingham and the surrounding villages. However, this role may require you to work in a variety of locations across the county to support other teams dependent on service needs .

The role requires you to start your working day at 9am in schools being ready to commence the school screening being undertaken that day.

Experience of working in the community/schools with children is desirable. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

You will be expected to work 21 hours per week, term time only, and the salary will be pro-rata to reflect a term time only contact.

Main duties of the job

The role of the School Health Assistant involves weighing and measuring children within the National Childhood Measurement Programme, Vision screening for 4-5 year olds and occasional hearing tests. You will be contributing to local and national targets for school health screening and you will be expected to communicate findings to parents.

  • Undertake screening programmes in accordance with the BHT Best Practice Guidelines for the Screening programme in schools.
  • To be aware of the confidential nature of the work.
  • Work within Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Children Code of Practice and Procedures.
  • Report and refer any concerns regarding child protection to the relevant Community Staff Nurse.
  • To maintain at all times a professional manner and appearance.
  • Work closely with the Regional Administrator for the School Nursing Team to ensure the efficient delivery of the NCMP/Vision Screening programmes.
  • Assisting at sessions, e.g. immunisation, clinics etc.
  • Assisting at health promotion events in school
