An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Midwife to join the team at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
We are looking for an innovative, dynamic, forward thinking individual.
The role of the consultant midwife is to provide expert clinical care and leadership within the maternity service. By working in collaboration with the Head of Midwifery and the wider maternity Triumvirate and senior team . The Consultant Midwife will deliver clinical care and ensure there is effective leadership, education and training, practice and service development and research/evaluation within the maternity service.
The consultant midwife will be an expert, autonomous practitioner of midwifery, a role model for midwives, work with the lead for research regarding midwifery research.
Lead the education service including the management of the practice development team
The Consultant Midwife will function as an expert midwifery advisor internally and externally. This will include acting as an ambassador for the Trusts maternity service, representing it across the organisation, externally with local healthcare partners and nationally as required by the Director of Midwifery or Chief Nurse.
The Consultant Midwife will work in conjunction with the Head of Midwifery /Director of Midwifery and the wider senior team for maternity services to lead the maternity transformation programme and lead on professional issues.
Main duties of the job
The consultant midwife will:
Working with the Director/Head of Midwifery and other key stakeholders to lead a service transformation enabling midwives to meet the needs of the local population in line with key objectives outlined in local and national policy documents and enhance integration between maternity and children and young people's services.
Actively promoting and developing care pathways that for women and birthing people choosing to have care from Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Working with the LMNS and across the region to support choice and develop systems and resources that support women and birthing people.
Providing expert clinical advice/consultancy to all medical and midwifery staff to ensure best practice standards are met.
Making a significant contribution to the clinical governance agenda by ensuring that practice is evidence based and through the development of staff competence at all levels.
Working with educational providers to develop pathways into midwifery as a career. Supporting the development of educational pre-registration programmes. The consultant midwife will work with the lead midwife for governance, the PDT and the wider senior team when developing training and development for midwives, nurses, Maternity Support Workers, and Nursery nurses as well as other support staff.
