Job summary
An exciting opportunity is presenting itself within the OPAT/IV service at Buckinghamshire NHS trust. We are looking to recruit two band 6 nurses to develop the team and support the introduction of the virtual ward project.
We are seeking enthusiastic, motivated clinical staff. Experience in the field of IV therapy / OPAT / vascular access would be ideal , however we are a progressive team and are open to looking at new avenues of health care professionals who can develop the service in these times of change.
To provide a 7 day working week and on call service over bank holidays (at present).
We strongly advise that applicants make contact with the team and either come along for an informal visit or just a discussion via teams / telephone to learn more about the service.
Main duties of the job
- To work within the Intravenous Therapy (IV) /OPAT team to establish and provide an expert service which ensures the maintenance of clinical excellence, underpinned by evidence based practice.
- To facilitate admission avoidance and early supported discharge thus reducing the length of stay in hospital for patients receiving IV antimicrobial therapy with the support of microbiology.
- To repatriate Buckinghamshire GP based patients safely that are requiring home IV treatment following appropriate governance processes.
- To support the IV service and Trust in any new developments of service pathways that the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) can provide.
- To support the service provision of IV monoclonals for COVID positive high risk patients.
- To improve the overall knowledge, monitoring and management of vascular access devices in both secondary and primary care settings.
- To support & help develop the service provision of Virtual ward (VW) / Hospital at home patients via the OPAT pathways.
- To support clinical staff in achieving competence within the specialist field of IV therapy and associated vascular access devices.
- To assess and monitor patients requiring central venous access devices on an inpatient basis.
- To provide advice and consultancy to patients and health professionals as required.
- To provide evidence of OPAT referrals / outcomes on a monthly / yearly basis.
