Job summary
Ward 9 SMH is Medicine for Older People and our patients are from 65 years old and over.
The post holder is expected to co-ordinate shifts when on duty and deputise for the ward manager as required.
To be responsible for ensuring excellent care is provided for all patients.
Monitoring and managing risk, ensure that internal and external audits are completed, and action plans are implemented.
To offer guidance and leadership to colleagues, support and supervise the nursing team.
Main duties of the job
To have the authority to make day to day decisions regarding the running of the in-patient unit and be aware of managerial limitations and restrictions
To provide clinical expertise to the in-patient unit in the absence of a more senior nurse. Monitor that appropriately trained staff are available to deliver safe, high quality patient care.
- Act as the co-ordinating nurse on the Ward in conjunction with other key nurses
- To ensure various trust audits are completed in the agreed timescale.
To deputise for the Ward Manager as necessary at meetings
Maintain high professional standards of care.
- To provide clinical expertise to the in-patient unit in the absence of a more senior nurse
- To understand the importance of good customer relationships and be able to act on comments/complaints to the day hospice service
- Assess and agree, in conjunction with other professionals, an appropriate package of patient's care.
- Ensure regular monitoring and review of the patients care plan alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Have excellent communication and inter-personal skills be able to communicate effectively at times of high emotional stress
- Participate in appropriate audit and quality improvement projects associated with clinical and service development issues. Contribute to the mentoring and supervision of pre and post registration nurses and other professionals on educational placements on the ward
