Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced neurological physiotherapist to join our stroke unit team as a Band 7 Advanced Physiotherapist on the stroke unit in Wycombe General Hospital, High Wycombe. This role is part of an established job-share leading the physiotherapy team on the acute stroke unit, where patients who are at least 72 hours post-stroke are transferred for ongoing early rehabilitation, care and discharge planning. This role will suit someone who is passionate about providing high quality care and rehabilitation for stroke patients, working together with the MDT and in partnership with patients and families.
The role is part of a well-established and supportive therapy team, and the post holder will be supported by the Band 8a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Stroke, as well as working alongside other experienced Band 7 Physiotherapists. We pride ourselves on integrated team working and strive for best clinical practice, promoting quality improvement at all levels. We strongly encourage an evidenced based approach and support staff through supervision and appraisal. There is a strong emphasis on junior staff development and on student education. Attendance at post graduate courses is also supported.
Candidates will be expected to join and partake in emergency on call rota and weekend working rotas, therefore previous experience of working within a respiratory or intensive care field is essential.
Main duties of the job
To be responsible for jointly leading and developing the Physiotherapy team providing a service to the acute Stroke Unit and associated wards in regard to all aspects of clinical governance within this specialty.
To perform specialised assessment and treatment for patients with highly complex neurological presentations and needs, and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers, relatives and others.
To undertake all aspects of clinical responsibilities as a skilled, autonomous and advanced practitioner.
To actively lead development of professional and service initiatives, and contribute to organisational objectives.
To supervise, teach and appraise Physiotherapy staff and students within the specialty.
