Job summary

Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist Stroke Early Supported Discharge Team

9 month maternity cover

Would you like to gain more experience in stroke rehabilitation within patients homes and communities?

This is an excellent opportunity for a band 6 Speech and Language therapist to work in a truly integrated and supportive MDT.

You will work alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists and Rehabilitation assistants to facilitate high quality rehabilitation and enable patients to work towards their own specific goals. You will work with patients and carers to provide vital advice and support to help people live well after stroke.

Main duties of the job

You will the get the chance to work intensively with patients and their families at a key stage in their stroke recovery, with many opportunities to design and implement individualised aphasia therapy programmes. You will have access to Teletherapy Software and Devices to support rehabilitation programmes and work closely with the wider speech and language therapy team as part of the stroke pathway.

This is a part-time post to cover maternity leave. The post is for 9 months with potential to extend.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Health Professions Council Licence to Practice
  • Completion of accredited post-graduate qualification in dysphagia or equivalent, demonstrating completion of competencies

Desirable

  • Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Evidence of successful completion of relevant post- graduate short courses
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • A minimum of 2 years clinical experience with an adult case load
  • Evidence of developing specialist knowledge/skills resulting from clinical experience and continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Experience of the application of quality measures pertaining to SLT

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Knowledge of specialist SLT assessment and therapy tools relevant to the client group, e.g. impairment and functional approaches to aphasia therapy; assessment and management procedures related to swallowing
  • Awareness of the principles of clinical governance and quality measures
  • Knowledge of the roles of other professionals involved in the relevant areas of patient care

  • Excellent auditory and perceptual skills
  • Knowledge of communication aids
  • Awareness of national policies and procedures relevant to the client group
