Job summary

Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist working in Critical Care, Surgery & Acute Respiratory Care Unit

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Physiotherapist to join our dynamic therapy team, providing specialist physiotherapy input across Critical Care, Surgical Services and the Acute Respiratory Care Unit (ARCU).

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a forward-thinking department, delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to acutely unwell patients and contributing to service development within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. The static post allows you to contribute more to quality improvement and teaching of rotation of staff which can offer additional job satisfaction.

Previous experience in CCU, ARCU or acute respiratory services is desirable, but motivated candidates with strong core skills and a willingness to develop will be supported.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients within Critical Care, surgery and ARCU, including those with complex respiratory and rehabilitative needs
  • Act as a Band 6 clinician, managing your own caseload and contributing to clinical decision-making
  • Participate in on-call and weekend rotas as required
  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, supporting safe and effective patient flow
  • Contribute to the supervision and development of Band 5 physiotherapists, support staff and students
  • Support service improvement, audit and quality initiatives within the department

  • BSc/MSc Physiotherapy
  • State Registered Physiotherapist
  • Post graduate training relevant to surgery and critical care involving acquisition of specialist skills and knowledge
  • Physio student placement practice qualification

Desirable

  • Membership of professional body
  • Member of any special interest groups
  • Post graduate modules (e.g. Masters level or equivalent) relevant to CCU and respiratory, leadership, service improvement

Experience

Essential

  • Proven post registration experience including working in a rotational in-patient setting including medical and surgical areas.
  • Experience of complex caseload management and discharge planning
  • To have participated in on-call overnight services.
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development involving specialist additional knowledge and experience
  • Experience of supervision and professional/clinical development of staff

Desirable

  • Evidencing of auditing practice
  • Participation in service development and change management
  • Experience of CCU rehab process
  • Experience of medical and surgical respiratory patients
  • Experience of working within an integrated therapy team
