Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a surgical case reviewer at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
A surgical case reviewer is required by the department of General Surgery to collect data for the ACS (American College of Surgeons) NationalSurgical Quality Improvement Program.
This is a nationally validated, risk adjusted, outcomes based program to measure and improve the quality of surgical care. The programme has run very successfully in the USA since the mid 1980s and was started by the Department of Veteran Affairs.
The programme is designed to risk adjust on a patients severity of illness and compare them to a national average.
Today there are more than 700 hospitals participating in the programme and whilst most of these are in the USA , a small number have beenaccepted into the programme in the UK. It is a robust programme which will assist in improving the outcomes of the patients included in the datacollection.
In this role you will work closely with the consultant surgeons and the multidisciplinary team collecting data and inputting it into a database.
This is an important opportunity to really influence patient care and help to drive up the quality and improve patient outcomes.
Main duties of the job
You will collect and submit reliable data to the ACS (American College of Surgeons) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQUIP).
This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation and entry into the ACS NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for thehospital.
You will also work closely with the members of the Department of Surgery to identify opportunities for clinical quality improvement andimplement special projects as identified. They work closely with the surgical champion to ensure objectives for the programme are met.
