Apprentice Imaging Assistant

Job summary

We are looking for Apprentice Imaging Assistants to join our Medical Imaging Department at Colchester Hospital, you will be required to rotate to Clacton Hospital. The department cover: X-Ray, CT and Ultrasound. In this role you will be based in Ultrasound but will be required to have some rotation into the other specialties depending on service need. We are looking for full and part time (with the minimum number of hours 22.5)

You will undertake a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship within the first 18 months of your employment. The programme will include an initial period of 8 weeks in a classroom based environment with time in the department to support the development of skills.

As an Imaging Assistant you will provide efficient, high quality support for patients attending our radiology department. You will assist the Radiographers, Nurses, Sonographers and Radiologists to ensure all procedures and administration duties are carried out.

We welcome applications from individuals with or without prior healthcare experience who are eager to build a career in the NHS.

We are a 7 day service where you will work on a shift basis including long days, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

  • To greet patients in a professional manner
  • To support radiographers/ sonographers in preparing the patient for their examination
  • To assist patients to get dressed and undressed and to chaperone patients where necessary, for example in the scanning rooms
  • To assist patients with personal care such as toileting, vomiting, bed changes or those requiring support
  • To ensure that patient privacy and dignity are respected at all timea
  • To attend to patients' needs whilst in waiting areas and after examinations, for example, making and giving drinks, contacting relatives/carers
  • Assist patients with initial safety screening for scan and medicines administered by Radiographers/ RadiologistsTo assist with the moving and handling of patients and loads using the correct moving and handling aids and techniques in accordance with local guidelines and risk assessments
  • To support radiographers / sonographers with positioning of patients on and off the scanning table
  • To handle equipment and accessories safely
  • To provide pre and post examination information to patients
  • To escort patients to and from the clinical areas within Radiology
  • To run errands as requested to assist in patient care/smooth running of the clinical area
  • To assist the Radiographer/ Sonographer in decontaminating and cleaning of dedicated imaging equipment, accessories, and environment, ready for the next patient
