Senior Radiographer - Interventional, Cardiac and CT

Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Radiographer who is looking to join our multi-disciplinary team at Colchester Hospital of radiographers, nurses, administration and doctors and expand their clinical expertise.

You will work in our combined Interventional Radiology & Cardiac Angiography (IRCA) unit which provides a 24/7 service for interventional radiology. Colchester is a Vascular centre where we perform numerous procedures including RIGs, portacath insertions, ureteric stents, fibroid and prostate embolisations. We also accept patients from across the region for urgent, life-saving procedures such as EVAR, FEVAR, embolisation, thrombolysis and angioplasty. This post requires a rotational on call commitment.

The dedicated Cardiac Cath Lab runs Monday-Friday for procedures such as diagnostic coronary angiography and pacemaker implants and liaises closely with other local hospitals for those needing interventional procedures. There is also an opportunity to rotate into CT.

As a Radiographer you will provide effective, high quality individualised care to patients and relatives/carers, contribute to the continuing development of radiology practice and support students and new member of the team in their learning.

There is a permanent and a fixed term post until 31/03/2026. Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be required to lead and ensure high standards of patient care at all times, in line with Trust policies and guidelines. In addition you will be an effective leader of the team and wider multi-professional healthcare team.
  • You will provide high quality images to our radiologists, cardiologists and vascular surgeons.
  • Participate in the vascular on-call service (45 minute call out time).
  • Deputise for area lead radiographer taking responsibility of managing the area on a day to day basis in their absence
  • Act as point of contact for general imaging enquiries acting appropriately, sensitively and professionally to ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, seeking more senior support if appropriate
  • Communicate decisions and outcomes from enquiries to the relevant senior staff member
  • To support undertaking regular review of systems and implement changes and audit of these to ensure maximum efficiency as required
  • Liaise with peers of all professional groups, radiologists, other medical officers and technical staff in the delivery of high quality patient care
