Job summary
The Theatre Staff nurse plays a pivotal role in the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality care during ophthalmic surgical procedures. As a key member of the perioperative team, the post holder is responsible for preparing and maintaining the sterile field, managing surgical instruments and consumables, and directly supporting the ophthalmic surgeon throughout procedure.
This role requires a high level of attention to detail, expert knowledge of aseptic techniques, and specialised skills in ophthalmic surgery. The Theatre staff nurse ensures patient safety and comfort,
Upholds infection control standards, and contributes to smooth running of the theatre environment.
The nurse must demonstrate excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills, and be committed to continuous professional development in line with current clinical practices and regulatory standards.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes with direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in-charge of the ward and supervising junior members of staff.
You will be a key member in relation to the development of practice in the clinical area. They will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional actions.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
