Radiotherapy Late Effects Specialist

Job summary

Are you a dynamic therapeutic radiographer looking to be a part of a new service and develop your leadership skills by taking forward our new late effects service for radiotherapy patients?

We are looking for a Late Effects Specialist Radiographer to join our Radiotherapy department to develop our new service to deliver specialised care to improve the quality of life of the patients experiencing late effects of cancer and its treatment. This post is 22.5 hours per week, with flexibility on how these hours can be worked.

Working in collaboration with the Head of Radiotherapy, the multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders, you will provide senior leadership and clinical expertise to deliver therapeutic radiographer led clinics, implement new ways of working in order to affect change, develop pathways to enhance more timely management of symptoms and most importantly positively influence the patient outcomes and experience.

You will work across our Colchester and Ipswich Hospital sites at East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), which is one of the largest Trusts and cancer centres in the East of England, acting as an expert resource working to develop standards in late effects of radiotherapy.

Main duties of the job

  • Alongside the Head of service and operational leads, effectively lead and support clinical teams by applying specialist knowledge and experience of best practice in late effects to drive service improvement.
  • Provide expert support to patients experiencing debilitating late effects of radiotherapy treatment along with management of symptoms.
  • Evaluate previous treatment plans to inform on side effects experienced and appropriate management.
  • Work together with Heads of Service to form collaborative relationships in which to challenge, influence and empower clinical teams to deliver more effective, innovative and high quality services. Collaborate with Cancer support workers, CNS, oncology teams and MDT to establish and trigger referrals for the late effects service.
  • To promote good working relationships with other members of staff, both internally and externally. To exercise judgement when dealing with sensitive, personal and professional issues with staff using, where appropriate, skills of persuasion, motivation, coaching, empathy and reassurance. As and when required undertake Trust management training.
  • Ensure at all times patients, carers and relatives are fully considered in the context of care, activity participating in ethical decision-making.
  • Develop patient and health professional information regarding late effects to aid the early recognition and intervention.

  • HCPC registered
  • Specialist training to masters level or equivalent practical practice.
