An exciting opportunity has arisen for Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse. We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and well-motivated registered nurse with a strong commitment to nursing patients on our Grundisburgh Ward in Care of the Elderly.
You will be a key member of the ward nursing team to ensure high quality care is delivered. You will be part of a multi-professional team.
You will be required to work across the Trust to help facilitate patient flow and achieve the standards set within the National Clinical guidelines.
You will need to have:
- The ability to work autonomously
- An ability to make safe and speedy clinical judgments in an emergency situation
- The desire to develop your clinical skills and knowledge in relation to care of the elderly with complex conditions such asdementia and Parkinson's disease
- Evidence of teaching, mentoring and supporting other staff
- Excellent communication and team work skills
- Good organisational skills
- Proactive attitude in supporting the ward sister in maintaining the highest standard of care .
You must be patient focused, flexible, adaptable and capable of thinking laterally.
Please be aware that you are required to work shift patterns including long days and weekends.

Main duties of the job
- Ensure that safe, effective and holistic patient care is delivered.
- Be responsible for assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of individualised programmes of care in partnership with patient, carers and consultants.
- Coordinate the ward and to help facilitate safe discharge .
- Support the staffing patch bleep out of hours.
- Supports the ward sister in performing clinical audits and to action any area which require an improvement.
- Accurately observe patient's condition and initiate appropriate action.
- Administer medication safely to patients, including IV and cytotoxic drugs using evidence based guidelines.
- Undertake evidence based care for a variety of indwelling central venous catheters.
- Maintain accurate, timely patient records and relevant data collection.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and all members of the multi professional team
- Participate in patient/carer education e.g. advice about patient's condition/needs, health promotion in particular in relation to endocrine conditions.
- To safely use clinical equipment relevant to own work area.
- Order investigations and blood tests within scope of practice.
- Undertake venepuncture and cannulation plus any specialist clinical skills such as venesection which are required by the area
