Job summary
We are seeking a new substantive Consultant Anaesthetist colleague to join our friendly and proactive department at Ipswich Hospital, part of East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT). This post has been developed as we expand our permanent workforce as well as bring new consultants to our team following retirements. In addition, we are in the process of reforming obstetric facilities on-site as well as expanding our whole main theatre suite with a mixture of brand new expansion (Elective Surgical Hub) theatres and refurbishment of existing theatres. We are a strong and supportive department and are looking for a long term colleague, who can bring their own skills and attributes to the department.
Main duties of the job
The initial job plan will involve a variety of specialties, particularly major general/urology, orthopaedics/trauma surgery. Details will be negotiated on acceptance of the post. Colleagues with a specialist interest that aligns with the department's service development are encouraged to adapt their job plan as opportunities arise.
The post will be based at Ipswich Hospital, with potential to diversify your job plan with sessions at Colchester Hospital in the future. It will include non-resident on call duties in theatres and the obstetric anaesthetic service at Ipswich.

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Must be on GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia or be eligible for entry within 6 months of interview
- FRCA or equivalent
- Possession of technical skills required for anaesthesia
- Experience of working within the NHS
- Team worker
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Evidence of taking part in teaching of junior trainees or multidisciplinary team
- Understanding of NHS management structure

- Current ALS and EPLS or APLS
- Instructor status in any resuscitation course
- Advanced training in areas relevant to proposed job plan or those areas we are seeking to develop further (discussion at pre-interview visiting)
- Achievement of RCoA higher training modules relevant to consultant post in a large district general anaesthesia (e.g. general, orthopaedic, regional, obstetrics or peri-operative medicine

- Evidence of strong positive feedback for teaching
