Job summary

Do you have a C1E driving license and want to use your skills to help make a difference to our patients? Would you like the opportunity to help move surgical instruments delivering them a short distance on our hospital campus?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Autoclave Technician / Collection and Delivery Driver to work within the Sterile Service Unit and Endoscopy Reprocessing Unit at Colchester Hospital.

You will join a busy friendly team, dealing with sterilisation and decontamination services; you will be involved in the sterilisation, collection and delivery of clean and used medical devices. You will be working as part of a team in a busy, fast moving acute hospital. You must have a flexible approach to your work & possess good verbal and written communication skills.

Previous experience in a similar environment and the NHS would be desirable; staff with the required skills is preferred. There may be opportunities to undertake further additional training. Process & procedures required for the distribution of equipment to theatres, internal wards, clinics external GP's and Health Centres.

This job role will be working Monday to Sunday full time 37.5 hours per week over 4 days. Please indicate on your application if you have C1E driving licence.

Main duties of the job

Duties of this role will include:

  • Operating sterilisers
  • Being responsible for final product check and release
  • Operating a barcode tracking system
  • Pushing and pulling, loading and unloading autoclave trolleys
  • Helping with stock control
  • Lifting heavy theatre sets
  • Completing theatre orders
  • Loading transportation trolleys
  • Delivering sterile products to theatres/clinics
  • Driving electric tug vehicle to and from the main hospital building to collect and deliver sterile and used medical devices
  • On occasions there may be a need to drive a Trust lorry which requires a C1E driving licence
