Job summary

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with special interest in Gynaeoncology. The successful candidate would be able to join Gynaeoncology team and is expected to provide cover for existing gynaeoncology consultant during annual and study leaves. The successful candidate is expected to provide care to women with general gynaecology and benign complex gynaecology conditions and also support diagnostic cancer pathway. There may be an opportunity of cross site cover in future.

In line with GIRFT, the candidate is expected to perform laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Ideally we are looking for an individual with the drive and ambition to continue and develop a multi-disciplinary approach. There are established pathway for benign and gynaeoncolgy services including target clinics and the post holder would be expected to continue the service with more concrete links benign and gynaeoncolgy service. The successful candidate would have the opportunity to attend Gynaeoncology / Benign Gynaecology MDTs

Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (CESR) and must be on the Specialist Register.

The successful candidate should have undertaken appropriate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and fulfil the criteria for admission to the specialist register.

Main duties of the job

As well as the Gynaecology aspects of the role, we are looking for an individual who possesses good Obstetric skills and can commit to the provision of Obstetric care and support the current consultants in the provision of the high risk Maternity Service. We would like to appoint an individual who can actively participate in all aspects of Clinical Governance for the department

The key duties and responsibilities of the post:

Clinical and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department

Develop standards, procedures and robust systems in the department to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient care from the point of entry into the department to admission or discharge from the department

Supervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will have opportunity to learn on a one to one basis on both formal and informal rounds and also on ad hoc basis throughout the day

An active part in educational programmes for junior medical staff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical audits relevant to the needs of the Unit

To teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate

Maintain an up to date job plan and personal development plan

Register and participate in the appropriate CPD scheme with the RCOG

Issuing of advice to GPs on suitability of patients for admission to hospital
