Job summary

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for you to join our expert team to become a Specialist Screening Practitioner for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

Colchester Hospital is the Screening Centre for the North Essex Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. The programme delivers services from the endoscopy units at Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals, as well as nurse led clinics from these sites.

Due to an increasing population, recent changes to the screening age and the management of Lynch Syndrome surveillance via the programme we have opportunities to join our team on full or part-time hours (total of 66.5 hours available). In this post you will provide ongoing support to the programme and will be involved in the development and expansion of services.

There will be an individually structured induction programme with ongoing support and education/training to develop in the role. There is a national requirement, if successful, that you enrol on the Specialist Screening Practitioner degree module in Plymouth or Liverpool within the first year after appointment.

Flexible working is essential amongst the team to deliver the service efficiently at all sites and weekend and evening working will be necessary.

The post does involve travel to other sites, so a driving licence is required.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be required to work as part of a national screening service, adhering to nationally and locally agreed policies and guidelines, working closely with the administration staff and the screening hub. You will contribute to the development and quality assurance of the screening programme.

You will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and a relevant professional background. These are required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and provide expert support to patients and their families throughout the screening process.

We are looking for committed, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individuals with the ability to prioritise a demanding and diverse workload. You will need to work on your own initiative and as a member of a growing and experienced specialist team.

The post does involve travel to other sites, so a driving licence is required.
