Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Trust Registrar in paediatrics, to join our friendly, and forward thinking team.

The post holder will form part of the 10-cell Tier 2 middle-grade team, joining our 8 level 2 paediatric trainees, and associate specialists. In addition, 4 consultants contribute to the out of hours tier 2 rota on a low frequency basis.

The post involves cover of general paediatrics including the ward, Children's Assessment Unit and referrals from the Emergency Department as well as Neonatal Unit. The post-holder will rotate between areas, according to clinical interests and the needs of the department. The post-holder will also undertake at least one outpatient clinic a week in an area of their chosen speciality. We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with a Diabetes, Gastro, Allergy or Cardiology interest.

Main duties of the job

GENERAL/CLINICAL

The post-holder's day-to-day duties will include:

Assessment and management of in-patients in the Children's Ward and Neonatal Unit, including participating in ward rounds under supervision

Assessment and management of sick children in the Children's Assessment Unit

Assessment and management of sick children in the emergency department when an opinion is requested, including emergencies and resuscitations

Attendance at difficult obstetric deliveries and resuscitation of new-born infants

Weekly outpatient clinic under consultant supervision

Participation in the Tier 2 (middle grade) out of hours medical rota on a pro-rata basis, including evening, night and weekend shifts

Dedicated admin time to ensure all paperwork/communication with other services is up-to-date

Participation in clinical supervision of junior medical staff

Working in partnership with medical and nursing teams and other

MDT members to ensure children, young people and their familieshave seamless, planned care to meet their needs

Outpatient Clinics in the post holder's specialist area.
