Job summary
We are inviting applicants for a full time post as a Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal Benign Surgery.
The job plan is expected to consist of 12 Programmed Activities (PAs) and the exact details of job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate after their appointment.
The appointee will be expected to:
o Take part in Consultant on-call rota
o Take part in the bariatric on-call rota if appropriate
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:
o Work with colleagues to provide a Consultant-led service with the highest standard of care
o Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines
o Develop and maintain good working practices with wards, out-patients and the ED
o Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues, other departments and primary care
o Offer educational, clinical support and leadership to junior medical colleagues, nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary
o Ensure appropriate information is made available to staff to measure clinical performance and enable meaningful benchmarks to be established and evaluated within your area of responsibility
o Ensure there is a robust process for reviewing the quality of services provided, explaining the causes of success and failure and ensure the highest standards are maintained
o Provide a role model of professional leadership, which underpins the corporate values and behaviours agreed by the organisation, ensuring these are understood and demonstrated by the medical workforce within your area and take remedial action where poor behaviour are demonstrated
o Ensure that junior doctors training conforms to College requirements
o Participate in the appraisal of medical staff within the department in line with the Trust's agreed policy
o Become part of the ICENI teaching faculty in delivering or facilitating courses/programmes.

- Experience in acute general surgery
- Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching
- At least 5 years at HST level (or equivalent)
- Ability to lead and work as part of multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively and be involved in the organisation of the department
- FRCS or equivalent

- MD/MS/PhD or equivalent
- Entry onto the Specialist Register or a UK SpR within 6 months of CCT/CESR date at interview
- Training in advanced laparoscopic surgery
- Training in bariatric surgery
- Evidence of work submitted for Peer review
