Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen to join a small multidisciplinary team within our Ipswich Hospital Vascular Access Unit.

The Vascular Access Service currently operates Monday to Friday and aims to provide consistently excellent practice in the insertion, care and maintenance of Vascular Access devices. We provide education and support to staff and patients.

You will work in a collaborative and supportive environment with the service being led by our lead consultant and alongside our current vascular access practitioner. This is an exciting time to join the team as we aspire to invest and develop our service further over the the next 6 months.

You will be given training for the insertion and care and maintenance of PICCs and Midlines (if required) and a supernumerary period to learn the day to day service requirements.

Main duties of the job

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding in the area of Vascular
  • Be competent in venepuncture and cannulation
  • Insert, care, maintain and remove vascular access devices
  • Ensure patient safety at all times by recognising procedural complications and manage them
  • Liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of patients referred for vascular access

  • RGN/Dip. HE, NVQ III in Operating Department Practice/C&G 752 or Dip. HE Operating Department Practice
  • Current registration of professional body

Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience as a qualified practitioner in an acute care setting
  • Experience in the care of vascular access devices

Desirable

  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Proven experience of working within an autonomous role
  • Proven experience within the specialty
  • Experience and competency of placing vascular access devices

Knowledge
