Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit for a Courier Driver/Porter based at our Colchester General Hospital site.In this role you will be required to provide a customer focused Driver service.

You must have;

o Understand the meaning of confidentiality.o Good verbal and written communication skills.o Good Customer Service Skills.o Understanding for health and safety issues.o Ability to work within a team and on your own.o Ability to act calmly and effectively.o Ability to use tact and diplomacy in all situations.o Able to react flexibly in changing circumstances.o Able to lift and bend.o Basic computer skills.o Full UK Driving Licence

Main duties of the job

  • Collect/deliver Histology & pathology samples (including bloods) from GP surgeries, Health Centres, various outlying NHS premises and Hospitals and deliver to the processing centres
  • Collect/deliver medical records & x-rays to/from Health Service premises ensuring patient confidentiality and security
  • Collect/deliver & sort mail, parcels, boxes, to/from NHS premises
  • Collect/deliver clean & used HSDU equipment (surgical instruments) to/from Theatres/GP surgeries and the processing centre
  • Carry out removals of office, medical and sundry equipment
  • Deliver/collect and where appropriate install medical equipment (including beds) in patients' residences and returning same to the store
  • Collection/delivery of all pharmacy products (including controlled drugs) from/to NHS premises and patients' residences

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES

Undertake scheduled work for the day including:

  • Collect/deliver Histology & pathology samples (including bloods) from GP surgeries, Health Centres, various outlying NHS premises and Hospitals and deliver to the processing centres.
  • Collect/deliver medical records & x-rays to/from Health Service premises ensuring patient confidentiality and security.
  • Collect/deliver & sort mail, parcels, boxes, to/from NHS premises.
  • Collect/deliver clean & used HSDU equipment (surgical instruments) to/from Theatres/GP surgeries and the processing centre.
  • Carry out removals of office, medical and sundry equipment.
  • Deliver/collect and where appropriate install medical equipment (including beds) in patients residences and returning same to the stores.
  • Deliver/collect clean/used laundry hospital to and from departments, satellite units, and other NHS premises.
  • Collection/delivery of all pharmacy products (including controlled drugs) from/to NHS premises and patients residences.
  • Collect confidential waste from NHS premises and deliver to the hospital for safe disposal if and when requested.
  • Collect, sort & deliver boxes of stationery from goods in.
  • Safe delivery/collection of Radio Active Isotope to/from NHS hospitals.
  • Answer telephone, take messages and where appropriate action the contents.
  • Sign for items etc. e.g. controlled drugs, pharmacy, letters and packages.
  • Provide support, guidance & advice to newly recruited members of staff.
  • Undertake ad-hoc collections/deliveries as required.
  • Carry out portering tasks when no driving cover required.
