We are looking to appoint 3 full time candidates on each site to work with us from August 2024 to August 2025.
This post is suitable for trainees who have already obtained Foundation Trainingor equivalent and have 2 years post-graduate experience. It would be particularly suitable for trainees who wish to take time out of their programme to gain experience in medical education. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to be partially funded by the Trust to undertake either a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education or Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership.
We are seeking enthusiastic, self -motivated clinicians who thrive in a team environment and who inspire to deliver the highest quality medical education experience to undergraduate student doctors from Cambridge University and University of East Anglia. This would be in the form of lectures, small group seminar work, structured bedside teaching, formative and mock OSCEs and provide pastoral support, academic guidance in liaison with clinical supervisors.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicants will be expected to continue to develop the teaching programme in line with the curricula and work closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education Team to audit, develop and improve undergraduate medical education and teaching offered by the Trust.
The post holders may have dedicated time to work in the East Anglian Simulation Training Centre or ICENI Centre to support high fidelity simulation training to the student doctors and be trained as Simulation Faculty, developing clinical expertise in simulation, human factors and medical education.
Each successful candidate will work 1 WTE, with job share of 0.8 WTE in Medical Education with 0.2 WTE in a sub specialty expected. We are recruiting for six roles in total, three based in Ipswich and 3 based in Colchester.

At Ipswich we are investing £35million in a new Emergency Department and co-located Urgent Treatment Centre, with additional diagnostic imaging kit (MRI and CT). There's a £5.3million molecular diagnostic laboratory soon to open at Ipswich, and works begins soon for a new Breast Care Centre and a Children's Unit.

- The post holder will be involved in the clinical teaching of medical students across all the modules/years for which the Trust takes students on placements. This would be in the form of lectures, small group seminar work and structured bedside teaching.
- This post will offer excellent organisational and direct teaching experience at the undergraduate level along with the opportunity to work towards a qualification in Medical Education.
- It is expected that the post holder will undertake some training in medical education and perform some research/audit into medical education within the Trust, and this will be supported through leave and course fees by the Trust.
- To become familiar with the teaching objectives of all the programmes being delivered by the Trust and work with the students to help them achieve these objectives.
- To be familiar with the electronic curriculum and University web-based learning platform and be available to facilitate students self-directed learning.
- The post holder will have dedicated time to work with the simulation faculty to support high-fidelity simulation training to the medical students. The successful candidate will be trained as simulation faculty.
- Teaching medical students at the bedside is an integral part of the job however opportunities to utilize the clinical simulation suite to deliver teaching in a dynamic way will also be made available
- To work closely with the Undergraduate Medical Education Team to audit, develop and improve the teaching offered by the Trust. It is expected that the post holder will develop a project to be presented at the end of the year to the Clinical Sub Dean and UGME Faculty.
