Job summary
The Colchester Urgent Treatment Centre is located at the front of Colchester Hospital's and manage patients that need both Urgent and Emergency care.
The UTC will see, treat and discharge patients or stream patients to the most suitable service dependant on their needs, including ED. We are open from 7am until Midnight, 7 days a week. We treat both walk-in and ambulatory patients whose injuries or illnesses are not so serious as to need full emergency department care. Our Nurse Practitioners offer a 'Care at the Door' service which has been recognised by the National NHS England team as a Gold Standard Service. The 'Care at the Door' offers the patient the opportunity to be seen by a clinician on presentation to the UTC/ ED and they will then be streamed to the most suitable service. The Nurse Practitioners are supported by our Triage Nurses and HCA's.
Main duties of the job
As a HCA in the UTC, you will work alongside a team of practitioners (ENPs/ANP's/ACP's), general practitioners and operational staff to deliver unscheduled care to both Adults and Children that present with complex and/or chronic illness and minor injuries.
You will undertake basic observations on a wide array of patient presentations to assist the clinicians. You will work with the Clinicians supporting them on the Front door and assisting in offering Care at the Door. You will manage patients who need dressings renewed, wound reviews, assisting with plastering injuries.
You will be expected to work between 0700-0030 and part time hours will be considered.
Due to the acuity in the UTC, we are looking for experienced HCA's with a Care Certificate and qualifications and the following knowledge and skills would be desirable:
- Plastering experience
- Experience in Wound Management
- Dressing Experience
- ECG
- Experience of using SystmOne
- Understanding and experience of using NEWS/MEWS/PEWS scoring
- Recognising a sick patient
- Good communication Skills
- Cheerful and friendly
- Check and understand patients vital signs
