Generic Therapy Worker - Felixstowe

Job summary

Felixstowe Community Healthcare Team has an opening for a permanent part-time (22.5 hours per week) B3 Generic Worker to work alongside the Community Therapists responsible to the Lead Therapist.

The Felixstowe Community Health and Social Care service is part of a wider Integrated Neighbourhood Team (INT) consisting of district / community nurses, generic workers, community matron, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and Social Care Workers managed by B7 Leads responsible to the INT manager.

The team is busy, dynamic and proud of their holistic care approach. The team continues to change to support developments in Health & Social Care which includes close working relationships with the local statutory, non-statutory, voluntary and community Connect services.

You will be actively supported by regular supervision and individual annual appraisal. You will be expected to work autonomously and on behalf of the patients served by the local area. You will have access to skills development training relevant to the post.

The role involves providing Therapy interventions to the residents of Felixstowe and surrounding area, who are 18 and over, registered with a Felixstowe GP. Our main aim is to support, maintain and encourage people to make healthy lifestyle choices in the ageing well process.

You will need to be a Car Driver and have access to a car for work which is community based

Main duties of the job

  1. Complete delegated assessments and apply competency based treatment/care/interventions to patients under the supervision of a registered practitioner, following a prescribed treatment/care plan.
  2. Understand own role in delivering care, enabling or providing interventions and treatments to meet individual's needs
  3. Plan and prioritise own visits to delegated patients, and ensure these are scheduled on SystmOne.
  4. Ensure patient records are completed for each intervention, and that SystmOne inputting is completed.
  5. Make basic observations on patients' response to prescribed treatment/care plans, identify risks, and report findings to a qualified practitioner. Make suggestions on care, protection and support.
  6. Liaise with other health care professionals as required.
  7. Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients with hearing or cognitive impairment.
  8. Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging factual information, giving reassurance, with tact and empathy.
  9. Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and other health care professionals.
  10. Demonstrate dexterity and coordination when undertaking treatment of patients where accuracy is important, and report results to registered practitioner.
  11. Be responsible for ensuring equipment is used safely, following relevant training, and that it is maintained appropriately.
