Job summary

Permanent opportunities have arisen to join our dynamic, innovative and friendly team in the Department of Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation at Colchester Hospital. Those already registered as pharmacists with the GPhC and those expecting to register in summer 2023 are welcome to apply.

About our Pharmacy Service

You will join other rotational Clinical Pharmacists in a training and developmental role working in our modern purpose-built facility. In addition to our fully automated dispensary, ESNEFT also hosts the Regional Units of Medicines Information and Pharmacy Manufacturing (including a brand new Aseptic facility).

Our clinical team is extensive with ward based Pharmacy teams working across a broad range of clinical areas. There will be the opportunity to work at both Colchester and Ipswich hospital sites in order to widen your breadth of experience.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in a wide range of professional activities which will reflect your development and competence as you progress through the Structured Training and Education Programme (STEP) competencies and standards. These have been developed in-house to support and guide your learning and development. These complement and run in parallel to the newly qualified pharmacist programme (hosted by the School of Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia in Norwich).

You will rotate through a number of clinical specialities and also have the opportunity to work in our manufacturing and chemotherapy production units, visit our community hospitals and receive training in medicines information enquiry answering and gain an understanding of the Specialist Pharmacy Service (SPS) Medicines Advice Service. You will participate in a range of audits in prescribing practice and drug usage; and contribute to the development of our service and the Trust's Medicines Optimisation Strategy.

You will have the opportunity to study for a Postgraduate clinical diploma and subsequently a non-medical prescribing qualification. For those with limited hospital pharmacy experience, attendance is also possible at our weekly ICS/ESNEFT delivered foundation trainee pharmacist educational workshops.
