We are an enthusiastic and friendly team of Consultants who welcome new colleagues to join our forward-thinking, ambitious and sociable department.

The department comprises of a team of thirty-five Consultant Anaesthetists, including nine Critical Care Consultants and three chronic pain Consultants. We have two Associate Specialists, a team of Specialty Doctors and trainees from the Foundation Programme and Eastern Region School of Anaesthesia.

Main duties of the job

The new appointee will participate in their share of Consultant clinical responsibilities within the department which will include fixed or flexible operating theatre sessions and participation in the out of hours on-call rota.

The post-holder will participate in the general and obstetric on-call rota, currently 1 in 16. Consultants are resident from 5-10pm Monday-Friday and non-resident overnight. Weekend on calls are worked on a shift pattern, with one consultant (resident) covering Saturday and Sunday days (8am-8pm) and another consultant (non-resident) covering the nights (8pm-8am). The weekend night consultant also covers Friday night.

This is included in the job plan and remunerated according to current contractual terms and conditions. The non-resident on-call is 0.6PA per week with an availability supplement of 3%

Consultants who no longer partake in the night on call rota, cover trauma lists and CEPOD day lists at the weekend - currently at a frequency of 1:9. This reduces the number of on call at weekends for those on the on call rota.
