Job summary
Applicants are invited for the post of Specialty Doctor in our A& E Department
The post will be based in the Department of Emergency Medicine at The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. The duties would include new patient assessment and management, review clinics and the clinical supervision and teaching of Junior Doctors and Specialist Nurses and an opportunity to participate in the clinical audit programme. In addition the SD Emergency Physician would be expected to be involved in the weekly training programme and to continue to develop their career and to regularly attend teaching and educational sessions.
The post is for 10+1.5 Programmed Activities per week and subject to Terms and conditions of service for specialty doctors - England (2008). There would be a requirement to work some evening/weekend sessions. The total number of hours worked per week would not exceed an average of 48. This includes a half day every week for research/audit/directed learning
Main duties of the job
The post will be suitable for a fully registered medical practitioner with at least four years hospital experience at Senior House Officer equivalent grade or above. This should include at least 6 months experience in Emergency Medicine - the remainder of the experience being in relevant acute specialities. A post-graduate qualification is desirable but not essential. Evidence of successful completion of ATLS, ALS & APLS / EPLS provider courses is desirable
About us
The Emergency Department (part of the Garrett Anderson Centre) at the Ipswich Hospital was opened in June 2008 and provides a state of the art facility for Emergency Care in East Suffolk. The £26 million Garrett Anderson Centre is the biggest development on The Ipswich Hospital site in 30 years. The ED contains a fully equipped resuscitation room (including a paediatric bay) and we enjoy a close relationship Critical Care Medicine who are also housed in the GAC. There are 14 fully monitored cubicles with telemetry for trolley patients and 5 cubicles for ambulatory care patients. There is a separate quiet room for psychiatric patients. There is a triage room as well as a purpose built relative's room. In addition there is a separate paediatric waiting area and four paediatric cubicles - we work closely with our paediatric colleagues. Full IT facilities and PACS are available.
