Job summary

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and experiencedConsultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicineto join our forward-thinking Emergency Department. This is a substantive consultant post with flexibility for full-time or part-time working.

This role offers a genuine opportunity to shape and lead Paediatric Emergency Medicine within a busy, well-supported Type 1 Emergency Department that manages over100,000 attendances per year, including a high volume of paediatric presentations. The successful candidate will play a key role in clinical leadership, education, safeguarding, service development, and multidisciplinary collaboration with the paediatric team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Provide consultant-delivered Paediatric Emergency Medicine within the Emergency Department, including reception, resuscitation, diagnosis, and initial management of paediatric emergencies

Lead and further develop Paediatric Emergency Medicine services within the ED

Act asPaediatric Emergency Medicine clinical leadandED safeguarding/child protection lead

Ensure high standards of safe, timely, and compassionate care for children and young people

Provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior doctors, ACPs, nurses, and the wider MDT

Coordinate and deliver paediatric resuscitation teaching and courses (e.g. APLS/EPLS)

Support and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including University of Buckingham medical students

Participate in audit, quality improvement, governance, appraisal, and revalidation

Work closely with paediatric medical, surgical, orthopaedic, anaesthetic, and critical care teams across the Trust and regional network

Contribute to departmental management, service development, and strategic planning

The post holder, depending on base specialty, may participate in the consultant on-call rota, delivered throughannualised self-rostering. The current weekend frequency is1 in 6.

  • Medical degree, FRCEM or equivalent
  • Will be required to maintain full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCT.
  • Advanced Life Support (Adult & Paediatric) as well as Advanced Trauma Life Support Provider or equivalent

Desirable

  • Instructor in ALS, EPLS and or ATLS
