Advanced Clinical Practitioner Breast (Developmental role)

Band 7 to 8A training position

Hours: 37.5 per week

This post offers an exciting oppertnity for an individual to develop wihtina ACP training role.The iBreast ACP (Diagnostic Lead) will train to a Advance Clinical qualification and provide expert evidence based advice and clinical expertise within Breast diagnostic and prevention pathways, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The post holder will be the nurse lead for implementation of urgent referral triage, one stop pathway, nurse clinics for clinical assessment, targeted biopsies, screening and prevention support services (training will be provided as required).

The post holder will be the Trust lead practitioner with decision-making autonomy, responsibility, and accountability for providing nurse-led breast diagnostic services, in addition to contributing to the leadership, education, development and supervision within the Department of Breast and for clinical teams across the Trust.

The post holder will independently provide on-going holistic care and treatment for patients including advanced clinical assessment, planning, prescribing, initiating and care and treatment. The role will also oversee the Health promotion and prevention pathways supporting recognition of breast cancer ealy and interventions required.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) role has been developed in response to changing healthcare provision, with the emphasis on developing expert clinical skills including advanced assessment and diagnostic skills. The ACP supports the junior medical team and increases the skills of the nursing workforce. The ACP role challenges the traditional workforce boundaries; the ACP will frequently undertake tasks and decisions which have traditionally been within the remit of medicine, therefore the ACP is a highly skilled clinical expert nurse working within a defined specialty or clinical area.

The Lead Breast diagnostic ACP will provide expert evidence based advice and clinical expertise within Breast, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. The post holder will be the nurse lead for implementation of the RAPID breast faster diagnostic pathway, including nurse clinics for clinical assessment, targeted biopsies, results clinics, and symptom clinicns (The post holder will lead the team of diagnostic nurses/ trainee ACPs.

The post holder will facilitate the transition through to surgical and/or clinical oncological care at a timely and appropriate time, ensuring the transfer of keyworker as appropriate. The post holder will provide expert nursing advice and be a core member of the Multidisciplinary team.

To disseminate innovations in practice education and research both nationally and internationally through conference presentation and publication.
