Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children
Department Safeguarding
Band 8A £53,755 - £60,504 Per annum
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced Nurse/Registered Professional to work closely with the Head of Safeguarding to ensure the Trust meets it statutory responsibilities.
The successful applicant will provide leadership on Milton Keynes Think family Safeguarding strategy and workplan, promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people at risk and contribute to the development of safeguarding policies, procedures and guidance.In addition to policy development and training, the successful applicant will oversee the management of safeguarding cases, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure timely and effective interventions.
You will be collaborating with external agencies, such as children's services and law enforcement to provide comprehensive support to at-risk children and young people.
The role will require strong analytical skills to assess safeguarding concerns and make informed decisions, as well as excellent communication skills to advocate for the needs of vulnerable children and young people. By leading on safeguarding initiatives, the successful applicant will play a key role in promoting a safe and supportive environment.

This is a key senior named professional role that holds Trust wide responsibility for leading and co-ordinating effective arrangements for safeguarding children and young people including holding the role of Designated Children's Safeguarding Manager.

Main duties and responsibilitiesThis highly specialised role will provide advice, guidance, supervision, and professional development in relation to safeguarding throughout the Trust. This role also provides professional leadership to support regulatory and best practice standards in relation to safeguarding. The Safeguarding Childrens Lead will be responsible for overseeing safeguarding quality improvements, within the current legislative framework and anticipate new statutory responsibilities.1. Holds Trust wide responsibility for leading and co-ordinating effective arrangements for safeguarding children and young people.2. Maintain clear systems of communication with service leads to support the safeguarding agenda.
Communication and Cross Boundary Working Develop and maintain strong links with all agencies that care for children and young people within the geographical area and out of area as required. Establishing clear systems of communication with staff in statutory agencies in relation to children safeguarding/protection.
Policy and Legislation Take the lead in writing new policy to reflect national policy and practice relating to childrens and young peoples safeguarding using a collaborative timely process that follows the required Trust approval process. To develop and embed effective safeguarding processes, policies and professional practice within the organisation that reflect the Trusts statutory requirements.
Finance Contributes to the effective management and deployment of the Safeguarding team to ensure financial viability. Contributes to a flexible rota to provide reciprocal cover for the duties expected from the whole safeguarding team.
Leadership Lead on a safeguarding training programme for all staff across the Trust to meet the requirements of the Intercollegiate Document 2018 with a primary focus on Childrens safeguarding and working in liaison with Adult safeguarding to ensure reciprocal cover as required. Ensure that all staff are adequately and appropriately supported to apply their safeguarding knowledge to ensure the Trust meets its statutory obligations under the Childrens Act 2989 and 2004, and Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023, Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015.
Service Improvement and Quality Devise, develop and contribute to the systems required to collect childrens safeguarding data. Formulate reports as requested to detail all childrens and young peoples safeguarding activity to demonstrate an understanding of the service demands and needs going forward. Provide all reports within the timelines required.
Patient Care Represent the organisation within the multi-agency partnership, as an affiliate Board member within MK Together, and as the lead representative at multi- agency safeguarding meetings and practice reviews. Provide specialist advice and support to children, young people and families where safeguarding concerns have been raised.
Research and Development Maintain theoretical and practical knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices in the field of childrens safeguarding. Contribute to Research and development projects pertinent to area of expertise and practice.
Management Act for the Head of Safeguarding in times of planned and unplanned absence. Support and conduct management reviews developing action plans that show good practice and to address gaps in skills and knowledge of staff, ensuring these are delivered and acted upon to provide assurance that lessons are learned across the organisation. In line with current legislation, provide expert advice on the management of sharing of confidential, sensitive information with other agencies working in the field of child safeguarding and protection, in collaboration with others.
