Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship | University of Northampton

You are 16 years old or over,

You have resided in the UK or EEA for at least the past 3 years,

You can produce evidence of your Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent) qualifications,

You will not be in full time education at the point of starting this role,

You have not previously undertaken a similar or higher qualification (E.g a degree or Masters in Occupational or Physiotherapy)

Your contract will reflect the development post. For the first 12 months of the apprenticeship, you will be paid the national apprentice wage. From months 13 to the end of the course, you will receive the national pay vs your age. If successful vs all criteria, you will be offered a permanent band 4 post with us once the course is completed.

Person Specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

• Evidence of a good standard of education 5 GCSE's grade C and above or equivalent, including English and Math's
• Level 3 qualification or higher in relevant subject area, for example in Allied Health Apprenticeship or equivalent level of knowledge and experience e.g. Sport Science degree or 3 A-levels (excluding general studies)
• Suitable level of experience as demonstrated by a CPD portfolio to match the job description

Desirable

• Assistant Membership of professional body e.g. COT
• Willingness to undertake training to meet competency framework
• Have an understanding of electronic notes systems, and have good IT skills
• Understanding of the scope of the role of an Apprentice Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist in context of the team and the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development

Experience

Essential

• Previous experience of working in health care
• Experience of working with the general public

Desirable

• Previous experience of working as an Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy assistant
• Experience of exercise prescription
• Substantial previous experience in heath or social care setting/ NHS including rehabilitation/ reablement and multidisciplinary and/ or multi-agency working
• Understand patients that are frail, elderly and have multi pathologies including mental health problems
• Previous experience of independent caseload management

Skills

Essential

• Good time management and able to multi task
• Ability to accurately record clinical record in a timely and concise way within required documentation standards
• Ability to be aware of clinical & non-clinical complications & risks
• Understanding of audit and patient outcomes
• Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

• Ability to prioritise own workload appropriately and have excellent time management skills
• Values the importance of multi-disciplinary and multi-professional working for improved patient experience and outcomes

Specific requirements

Essential

• Able to perform the duties of the post with reasonable aids and adaptations
• To be able to have access to transport to complete the required clinical placements at alternative sites
• Be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Therapy department
